Planning a Visit

Planning your visit and what to expect

We would love to have you join us for our Sunday worship service.  We realize that’s not always the easiest thing to do.  Below are answers to questions we frequently receive.  We hope the responses will assist you to enjoy as positive an experience as possible.  We figure the fewer other things you need to be concerned about, the more comfortable you will be to focus on worshipping God.

What should I wear? We are part of a coastal community which is inherently casual. Most people from out of town don’t bring anything but casual wear.  Be assured it’s totally fine to come casual.  If you prefer, business casual is also totally appropriate.   Our pastor doesn’t wear a tie or jacket.  God welcomes us as we are, and we will welcome you.

How do I get there? Frankly, we’re hard to miss, right on Ocean Ave between 4th and South 3rd Streets.  We’re a half-block south of the Sea Shanty restaurant and kitty corner from the Cayucos Market.

Where do I park? We have a lot just south of the main building.  Turn west on either side of the building with a lighthouse in front of it.  Should the lot be full, there is typically ample parking around the park just north of the church building.  It’s One Way around the park, so just watch the signs.

Will I be put on the spot?  We certainly hope not, but we love to meet our guests and welcome them appropriately.  As a vacation community, we typically have several guests and we understand their interests are varied.  We frequently give guests an opportunity to give a first name and home town so we can meet you – but only if you want to.  No pressure.

What about my kids?  We provide a nursery and an age-appropriate teaching time for students Kindergarten to 6th grade (called Lighthouse Kids).  Come directly to the lobby of the church.  If you have prekindergarten and nursery age children, notify one of the ushers and they will direct you to the Nursery.  The Lighthouse Kids join their family for the singing and opening part of the worship service and will be dismissed before the message.  You are free to go with them and get them settled in the class and return to the service if that is more comfortable for you. If you prefer, you are welcome to keep your children with you.

Is anything else going on?  Yes, we have an interactive Adult Bible Fellowship that meets from 8:45 until about 9:40.  That meets in the building at the 4th Street corner of the parking lot.  We call it The Harbor.

What is your service like?  Above all, it seeks to be God-centered.  We sing, read Scripture, pray, give, and study the Bible together.  Our music combines contemporary songs with hymns.  We believe the Bible is God’s instruction manual for fruitful living, so we value studying it.  Our messages will explain and interact with a passage or topic and connect it to the realities of our lives in a transformational way.  Often our pastor preaches through a book of the Bible.

How long is your service?  Our services are typically 70 to 80 minutes.

When and how do you celebrate the Lord’s Supper?  We celebrate the Lord’s Supper (communion) on the first Sunday of each month.  It is open to all who believe in Jesus as their Savior and desire to remember His loving and sacrificial death that brings us life.  The bread and cup are distributed to the congregation and we share them together when all have been served.
